About Suzy

Suzy Zucker Esstman--wife, mother, daughter, sister and dear friend to many--passed away from a brain tumor on July 8, 2007 just six days after her 44th birthday. Suzy filled her too-short life with energy, passion, creativity, fun, spirit and caring and left an imprint on all those she touched. Her three children, Andrew, Joe and Laurel, are a living testament to the good Suzy brought to the world.

Suzy was raised in Creve Coeur, Missouri, by her loving parents Joan and Nelson Zucker and grew up with her two brothers, Rick and Hank. She graduated from Parkway North High School in 1981 and the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1985, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. After graduation, Suzy worked for Procter & Gamble and in 1988 married Don Esstman.

In 2008, Suzy was inducted into the Parkway School District Hall of Fame for her contributions to her community. During her illness, Suzy started a fundraiser called Walking on Sunshine to raise money for brain tumor research.

At Suzy's request, her family has created a charitable fund, hosted by the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, to continue Suzy's fight against brain cancer.
